A new type of anti-inflammatory compound named SIG 1495 was developed in the lab to use in a cream. The cream was then tested on the participants with moderate to severe acnes along with other formulations like benzoyl and placebo. The participants used the new cream for eight weeks, twice a day.
Outcome Of The Trial
The study saw improvement up to 79% for those who used the newly developed cream with the compound SIG1495, while others had only 56% improvement using benzoyl peroxide. Participants using placebo did not show any signs of improvement.

The study, published in the Journal of Experimental Dermatology, claimed that the new formulation does not cause any side-effects like other traditional acne creams. The product manufacturer Eduardo Perez at Signum Biosciences claimed that it can offer as much benefit as compared to benzoyl peroxide for the acute acne sufferers.
Further, the study suggests that the new product has potentially worked by blocking the signaling receptor in the inflammatory pathway. At the same time, the product is effective in killing those adamant acne bacteria.
Expectations from the study
For severe acne cases, retinoid medications have been used for long. The treatment aims at preventing excessive oil production in the skin, responsible to cause severe pimples. However, they are not averse to side-effects like sore muscles and peeling of the skin. Hence, the road ahead for the scientists is to curb this factor linked to severe acnes.
The company claims to make the new product with SIG 1495 by the next year. We keep our finger crossed to avail the product as soon as possible so that we can get relief from irritating and annoying acnes sooner.
